Entry #9: Topics in food quests
Hey guys, welcome back :)
As you read in the title, this weeks' topic is in food quests, so let's get into it!
I was searching for a while before I finally saw an ad that caught my eye. Once this image appeared on my screen, I knew I couldn't ignore it. What I really appreciate about this ad is the fact that it has two potential meanings; 1. The issue of food waste, and 2. The issue of food health.
The image above displays what is meant to look like a burger. However, each component of this "burger" is actually made of garbage. I really enjoyed the imagery in the ad as it not symbolizes the problems we have with food waste in America, but it also highlights the truth about what we're really putting into our bodies; trash. Several life-threatening diseases have all been linked to the consumption of fast food. It honestly blows my mind that this is even a controversial topic. There are just so many articles, documentaries, books, etc. about the effects of constantly putting fast food (and in some cases, even store bought food) into our bodies, so why is the topic off food health still being so heavily argued?

Furthermore, did you know that only 5% of food is composted in the US? As a result of this, uneaten food is the single largest component of municipal solid waste. Food in landfills slowly decomposes into methane, a potent greenhouse gas that is 86 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Crazy right??
But don't worry guys, there are dozens of organizations worldwide fighting against the issue of food waste; 412 Food Rescue, located in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania,
Boston Area Gleaners - located in Boston, Massachusetts
Boulder Food Rescue - located in Boulder, Colorado
City Harvest - located in New York
And even Caritas, located in Vatican City, Italy.
Believe it or not there are just as many (if not more) organizations fighting to promote food health as well; The Food Trust, Food Tank, National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Clean Cooking Alliance, and even Food Corps (just to name a few).
But back to the ad: Overall, I really appreciate how direct this ad actually is. It's not too complicated, and it doesn't take too much thought to depict its meaning. Although this ad may not speak to its audience with words, I find that the representation is pretty hard to ignore. I think the portrayal is unique enough to quickly capture the attention of anyone who see's it, and the general thought behind the image is very well thought out. The creator of this ad definitely got their message across fairly well without the use of theatrics and/or quirky wordplay, and that's a skill not every creator has. Altogether, this ad is a definite 9.7/10 in my eyes, I doubt I could've done any better!
Welp, that's all I got. Until next time, bye guys! Have a great Christmas!

Hey, I really liked the first picture because of the graphics and message it perceives. The second one is also a good choice because, like you said, it shows a lot of emotion and is pretty straightforward.
